Aug. 1 '81: MTV launched at 12:01 AM. Within four months has 2,100,000 subscribers.

Sept. '82: Kicks off on-air merchandise program. Over 20,000 items are ordered.

June '83: MTV wins 2 Clio Awards for advertising excellence.

Sept. '84: MTV presents the first "MTV Video Music Awards" from Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Bette Midler and Dan Aykroyd.

July '85: MTV presents 17 hours of Bob Geldof's LIVE AID concert.

June '86: MTV broadcasts entire Amnesty International concert from Giants Stadium, New York.

March '87: MTV launches in Australia on The Nine Network.

Dec. '88: MTV Europe announces Greece will be the twelfth European country to make MTV available 24 hours a day.
